Movember Inspiration - Noted Golf Architect or 70's Porn Star

A couple of weeks ago I told you about Noshember... the creative November beard-growing challenge. No Shave November = Noshember.

In response to that post the awesome Aussie Golfer asked, "Is that a rip-off of Movember?" - Turns out Movember is a similar movement... but with a focus on... the mustache. 

Anyone who's been watching the Presidents's Cup these last few days has seen some great golf played out on the treacherous fairways of Royal Melbourne.  Stylistically speaking, the uniforms haven't received much attention ... but there's one particular style statement does have people talking: Australian golf Geoff Ogilvy's "Movember moment".  The normally clean-shaven Aussie golfers is currently sporting a prodigious mustache.  Some like it, some loath it but it's definitely getting attention.

Personally I'm just wondering if Mr. Ogilvy was inspired by the famous golf architect or the iconic porn star.

A Chance To Play Winged Foot While Lending a Helping Hand

Winged Foot is magic. You feel it the moment you pass through its stately stone gate.  Even if you've never played golf... and know nothing of it's history... you sense the magic of the place. It's something that goes well beyond the iconic tree-lined fairways and sloping pear-shaped greens.

The exclusive slice of Westchester County that contains two of the country's top golf courses is beautiful... but not breathtaking.  What's breathtaking is an ambiance of cloistered contentment that surrounds the  majestic stone clubhouse and envelopes its private parkland.  Its allure transcends Tillinghast and his masterful "Golden Age" architecture.

I consider myself very luck to have been able to play both the East and West Courses and they remain my most memorable golf experiences to date, but as a private, invitation-only club, the opportunity to play at Winged Foot is very hard to come by.  So when a good friend of mine told me the story of Sue Memhard and the Emerald Heart Cancer Foundation it resonated on a couple of levels.

The Emerald Heart Cancer Foundation provides assistant to women facing cancer.  Sue is it's founder and a two time breast cancer survivor, she's now in treatment for the third time and has accumulated substantial uninsured medical bills herself.  As founder however, she's not eligible for Emerald Heart's grants so the foundation's Director of Grants, Elyn Jacobs has organized a raffle and is selling raffle tickets, in the form of tax-deductible donations for Sue, via Lend a Helping Hand charity.
The lucky winner and two friends will enjoy a round of golf and lunch at Winged Foot Golf Club.

A Thur... Fri... Saturday post from Golf Girl World

Once again the business of the week has gotten in the way of my famous Thursday Post... so from now on, it's going to be a Friday post... which will make my life easier AND lessen the chance of it being late... although this week I'm actually writing it at 2:ooam on Saturday morning?

OK... I assure you, I will get into the rhythm of the work flow around here, and I really appreciate your patience in the meantime. Thank yous.

We spent Wednesday in Manhattan, where we had the opportunity to preview the 2011 Ralph Lauren and RLX golf apparel lines. What can I say? Everything... from the fresh color pallets to the body-conscious cuts to the innovative fabrics is ... superlative? I think that's the word I'm looking for. Anyway it's a beautiful, well-balanced collection and we'll be writing about it next week.

We also met with a photographer who may be helping us out with "Tillinghast from the Red Tees". I never saw golf courses as art before. Now I do. To be honest with you, I didn't even know who Albert Warren Tillinghast was a month ago when Patricia told me about the project... even though I grew up in the shadow of one of his most famous courses. ~ So... I'm learning. Learning a lot, and quickly.

Now for my Poll question which you may have caught on Wednesday's show: After seeing a woman on the golf course last week with a small dog sitting next to her in the cart... and knowing this is practice of Playboy's Kendra Wilkenson along with other celebrities... I wonder: Should dogs be allowed on the course and (bonus question) what breed would you like to see on your course?
