Only Two Things - Sexy Scrambles Gals Can Enjoy

In early October... right around the same time the Ryder Cup was taking place at at a rain soaked Celtic Manor...  Jordan and I spent a glorious Autumnal afternoon at historic Dellwood Country Club.

We were there for The New York Playboy Scramble. Part of what Playboy Golf calls the the nation's hottest golf tournament.  Our day at Dellwood had been postponed from earlier in the summer due to inclement weather and we'd been looking forward the rescheduled event. 

The Playboy Scramble is actually a series of regional events that take place on distinctive courses across the country... as well as in Canada and Australia...   leading up to a final competition (and VIP extravaganza) in Southern California, for the leading regional teams.

We got to Dellwood... which is about an hour north of Mid-town Manhattan... at about 11:00.  The teams had just taken off and the Tillinghast course was resplendent against a backdrop of rolling hills draped in peak fall color.  Before we hopped into our cart we were able to chat a bit with Ajay Pathak,  Playboy Golf's forward thinking President & CEO.

Though we'd been looking forward to this event, we told him we'd also been a bit hesitant, not knowing if... as women... we'd fit in.  In the weeks leading up to the event it was clear some of our friends and fellow golfers didn't think we would... at all.  There were some who surmised that a Playboy golf tournament would be like "a salacious strip club but with fairways and greens" and others who suggested that "any "normal woman" would feel intimidated by the beauty of the Playmate hostesses"... implying,  I suppose, that we were "normal women" and as such wouldn't enjoy the event.

And that's the thing.  As Mr. Pathak explained, Playboy golf events are fun, inclusive, and totally NOT intimidating.  They're set up in such a way that the most competitive players will be challenged, while beginners and less skilled golfers will also be able to have an awesome time.  Plus, Playboy's Girl's of Golf are perfect hostesses and they make sure the experience is stellar... for both men and women... from start to finish.

We saw all of this during our day at Dellwood, and that's what we'll be talking about tonight on "Only Two Things". from 9:30 - 10:30PM ET.   The Playboy Golf experience and how awsome it can be for women... as well as men.  We'll be joined by special guest,  Donna Tavoso, Chief Marketing Officer for Playboy Golf, who we also met at Dellwood Country Club.  We look forward to talking to her tonight about some of the fun experiences she's had ... and the interesting people she's met though Playboy Golf.

Glitz, Glamour and Golf at Mission Hills Hainan

He didn't do his triple back flip, but former Olympic gymnast Li Xiaoshuang was certainly in a celebratory mood today.

Together with his partner, Ryuji Imada, and three amateurs,  he won the Pro-Am Team tournament at the inaugural Mission Hills Star Trophy, now taking place in Haikou, China.  The team will split a back-flip-worthy $100,000 prize for their efforts.

The Pro-Am Team tournament is the first of three segments that make up the Mission Hills Star Trophy event.  It featured teams of one celebrity, one pro and three amateurs, in a scramble format. The improbable celebrity/pro pairings, combined with a collective sense of wonderment at the amazing new venue, made for two magical days of golf.  The final results... and some of those unique parings... are listed here.

The amazing golf event will continue throughout the weekend with the Pro-Celebrity Team (one celebrity, one pro, four-ball stroke play) and the Professional Individual events (20 professionals, male and female, 36-hole individual stroke play).

Hey there GGD Readers!

Once again it’s time for my Thursday post! But I don’t suppose I really need to tell you that as I assume it’s already on your Calenders... right? And, speaking of Calenders, October is a special month for Golf Girl Media. Not only is it my birthday month (a national holiday is in the works), but more importantly, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

As you may know we’re huge fans of Cristie Kerr and her Birdies For Breast Cancer Charity. Quite a few organizations are pitching in throughout October, and donating to Cristie's cause, including the awesome online golf boutique Golf4Her. LeBron James & Dwyane Wade - Free Agent Swingers

They're clearly the world's most fascinating NBA free agents, but which one has the better golf swing?

I don't know the answer to that but I'm guessing someone might. What I have learned is that LeBron tends to play with billionaires, which isn't surprising as he's made no secret of his desire to join their ranks. While sharing a golf cart with Warren Buffet may have allowed Mr. James to pick up some effective investment tips, I rather doubt the Bill Gates pendulum demo did much for his putting stroke and it looks to me like that particular billionaire boys outing was really boring extremely sedate.

As for Dwyane Wade, he seems more inclined towards the fun kind of golf: celebrity charity tournaments featuring pretty girls, awesome outfits and red carpet photo backdrops. As far as his actual golf skills are concerned, I have a feeling they may have been compromised by overexposure to Charles Barkley during the filming of a golf themed T-Mobile ad.

The rumor that's really been burning up the buzz-meters though is the one that placed LeBron and Dwyane together with fellow free agent Chris Bosh at Miami Golf Club for DJ Irie's recent charity Tournament and had them talking about the possibility that they all may be playing for the same south Florida team next year. Not a particularly rosy scenario if you're not into the Miami Heat.

I'd venture to guess that if this ambitious triple signing actually does happen, these gentlemen will have no trouble finding a fourth... even on very short notice.

Consistent Cristie Kerr Wins State Farm Classic

Weather is something professional golfers are used to dealing with.

In fact, the ability to handle various climatic conditions is one of the skills that defines a top player and contributes to the consistency every golfer strives for.

Cristie Kerr has been more successful than most in achieving it. So much so that State Journal-Register writer Dave Kane suggested she might be crown "the new queen of LPGA consistency" in Springfield, IL.

Springfield is the site of the LPGA State Farm Classic where Cristie captured her 13th LPGA tour victory this morning after myriad weather delays pushed play into a fifth day. ~ With six top-10 finishes in eight years of playing this tournament... including a win in 2004 and two runner-up finishes right after that... Cristie is clearly worthy of the crown.

A month ago New York Times writer Karen Crouse pointed out that at No. 5 in the world rankings, Cristie Kerr had been in the top 10 for 317 consecutive weeks. Today's win moves her to No. 4 and within one point of overtaking the world's No. 1, Jiyai Shin who had to withdraw for appendix surgery.

Ms. Crouse also noted Cristie's 71 consecutive made cuts and pointed out that the last time she didn't play on the weekend at a major the 2001 Women’s British Open. There's some consistency for you.
